On Our Way To San Salvador Bahamas

We will be on our way to San Salvador Bahamas leaving from Bimini in a few days. The boat is loaded with bait, tackle food and drinks and I can’t wait to get over there and do some marlin fishing. We will be pulling dredges with our new Ledge Logic boom (https://ledgelogic.com). We have squid dredges, firetailz dredges http://www.firetailz.com) and some combo dredges. Our goal is to pull lures and bait and hopefully do battle with some decent blue marlin. The reports from San Sal are very good and I can’t wait to put our guys on some fish. Fishing back home in Miami has been very good. We had a couple of weeks of rainy weather but that is now gone. There are plenty of sailfish around as well as plenty of blackfin tunas and kingfish on the edge. Offshore we are getting into schools of mahis in the Gulfstream.

Once we get back from San Sal towards the end of the month it will be mostly mahi fishing in the Gulfstream, which is a great way to spend the day with family and friends. The great thing about mahi fishing is it is really enjoyable for kids and families. The mahis are usually very plentiful. For the most part the fish are 5 to 10 pounds but you always have the chance of catching the bigger mahis of 25 to 50 pounds. The kids have a blast because once you get into of school of mahis it is not uncommon to see 50 to 100 fish in a school. Kids of all ages can catch them since we are using light spinning rods.

For the anglers who want to catch bigger fish, we will also be focusing on daytime swordfish and will be using manual reels as well as electric/manual combo reels. Now that we have pretty much mastered catching this fish with electric reels, it is time we start putting a bit more sport in it and catching these gladiators of the sea on manual hand crank reels.

Also when we get back it will be time to hed over to Bimini and do some bottom fishing focusing on yellowtail snappers as well as mutton snappers and groupers and deep dropping as well.

As you can see there is plenty of action in the summer in South Florida and what better way to get out of the heat than to spend the day offshore catching fish. There is almost always a slight ocean breeze to keep you a lot cooler that being stuck on land.
