Sailfish are Here

Report Date: November 15, 2008

In the past 15 days we have done 10 trips of all different types. We have done some daytime swordfishing, one evening swordfish trip and a few sailfish trips. I am happy to say that we have caught all of the targeted species for all of our customers. Let’s start with the daytime swordfish trips. The day trips for swords have gone extremely well. This is the time of year that you usually catch bigger swordfish and not to disappoint our largest fish was just shy of 400 lbs. It had a LJFL of 92 inches but was very stout. We fought the fish for over 90 minutes and it was quite the battle on the leader. I was fishing with a great customer and crew and it is always a pleasure to show my clients a good time and good fishing. The day sword bite should remain strong well into February. I also mentioned we did one night trip for swordfish and we did catch one swordfish that night. We did have 5 bites but either never had a hook in them or they pulled off after a while. That being said, we did have good action, caught one swordfish and had good people on board again. The night bite should remain good well into spring.

I also have done some sailfishing and we caught sailfish on every trip. My best day we caught 7 out 9 sailfish which is very good for November. I’ve been saying it for a while, but I think this is going to be a great year for sailfish. Number one, there were plenty of sailfish around during the summer, secondly there are a lot of fish up north pushing south and thirdly we have had quite a few cold fronts already which are moving the fish to our waters. We have been primarily catching the sailfish on kites but also caught some on flatlines as well. Besides sails, there have been quite a few dolphin on the edge along with some kingfish.

From now to spring is my favorite rime of year to fish and I am looking forward to a great winter season. Now is the time to book your trip on the Double D so you can ensure you will get the date you want. Also as the holidays get closer, if you are unsure as to what to get your significant other or a friend or relative, I do offer gift certificates for fishing trips and they have become quite popular gift items.

The last item I would like to mention, I am completely open for all the sailfish tournaments this year and would love to get a group together to fish some of them. If you ever wanted to experience a fishing tournament or already have and need a boat, give me a call and let’s try to set something up.

Tight Lines,
Capt. Dean Panos
